Dr. Kunz attended medical school at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, finishing in 2010. During this time, he conducted research and authored peer-reviewed journal articles with some of the leaders in ocular research.
He went on to complete an ophthalmology residency at Ross Eye Institute, SUNY University at Buffalo where he was chief resident and received the Most Outstanding Resident award. He also presented research about ocular surface disease, corneal infections and refractive surgery at national meetings.
He completed a fellowship in Corneal and External Disease at the Dean McGee Eye Institute at the University of Oklahoma. During this year, he performed hundreds of surgeries for a wide range of ocular diseases, including the latest iteration of corneal endothelial transplantation, DMEK. He also conducted research on endothelial transplant success based on graft thickness and wound size.
Dr. Kunz also specializes in laser vision correction surgery and cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. He offers advanced technology lens implants for the correction of astigmatism and near vision to decrease the dependence of glasses after cataract surgery. He also performs a variety of cornea transplantation techniques including: Penetrating Keratoplasty (PK), Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK), and Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK).
Originally a native of Oregon, Dr. Kunz is glad to be back in the Pacific Northwest after living in the Midwest and Northeast for much of his life. He enjoys running, biking, golf and basketball, as well as spending time with his wife and three children.
