Our goal is to enhance the life of each patient by taking care of all their vision needs.
Our story
Oregon Eye Consultants, LLC dates back to the 1950s and has always been considered a family organization. John Lyman, M.D., started his ophthalmology practice in the 1970s, acquiring the practice from his father, Howard Lyman, M.D., who had practiced in the community for decades.
In 1986, Dr. Lyman, along with Howard Fine, M.D., Gary Stewart, M.D., and William Spangler M.D. created the Oregon Eye Institute which became the home of four separate practices, an optical shop and a diagnostic testing facility. It was named Oregon Eye Associates. This facility is still the home location for Oregon Eye Consultants.
The Oregon Eye Surgery Center, the first ophthalmology-focused ambulatory surgery center in the area was established a few years later by the Oregon Eye Associates physicians. The surgery center allows the physicians to provide on-site, cost-effective surgery for their patients.
Keyhan F. Aryah, M.D. joined Dr. Lyman’s practice in 1992 and soon after, Dr. Lyman moved to Utah.
Dr. Aryah continued to grow the practice and opened satellite offices in Florence, Newport and Springfield.
In 1999, Robert J. Champer, M.D., Ph.D., joined Oregon Eye Consultants, a vitreo-retinal ophthalmologist providing sub-specialty care to the community. His practice grew to two locations in Roseburg, and the existing Newport and Florence facilities. John W. Karth, M.D., a second vitreo-retinal physician joined in 2007. Since that time, Oregon Eye Consultants retina physicians have expanded their practice to North Bend.
2015 brought more growth. Oregon Eye Consultants opened their Riverbend District office in Springfield, allowing patients the convenience of a location right off of the I-5. W. Benjamin Kunz, M.D., a cornea specialist and comprehensive ophthalmologist also offering refractive surgery joined the practice that July.
Robert M. Beardsley, M.D. joined Oregon Eye Consultants in August of 2015, a vitreo-retinal ophthalmologist and specialist in uveitis and ocular Inflammatory diseases. The next year brought the retirement of Robert J. Champer, M.D., Ph.D., in December.
We again expanded our practice in April of 2018. We opened the Edenbower Clinic, our 3rd Roseburg location, which is exclusively ours. Immediately following in May, we welcomed Allan A. Hunter, M.D., a vitreo-retinal specialist. He is thrilled to provide excellent patient care and surgical expertise here at Oregon Eye Consultants.
In October 2021 we expanded into Corvallis, Oregon with a retina-specific clinic. All 4 of our retina specialists see patients at this location.
Ernest Puckett, MD, a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist joined us this last August. He joined our anterior segment team seeing patients for comprehensive opthalmology, as well as cataracts and glaucoma in the Eugene, Springfield and Florence clinics.
Today we continue to grow and are committed to providing the highest level of care. Oregon Eye Consultants still holds dearly its sense of family and tradition that has been in our community since the 1950s.
